Acceleration

It could easily take ten years for the vision to become a reality in even a small area. If it is run, and decisions are taken as they would be by a start-up gaining traction as they would for most businesses it will take much longer than it needs to.

When starting up, one can never afford to spend the upfront costs that would make sense if you knew the volume was there. Take, as an example, the vehicles needed. Unless you know for sure that you are going to deploy the solution across the world and hence will need at least tens of thousands of vans, you are going to spend your money slowly. You might start with some sketches and a second-hand van that you cut the back off it and start experimenting with. You wouldn’t burn time on fully automating the box handling until you had enough customers to warrant it. You certainly wouldn’t expect a major motor manufacturer to start working with you to deliver the van. They wouldn’t be interested and you couldn’t afford to entice them to come to the party until the whole concept is a 99% certainty to work.
