Glossary

 BatteryBox  A red plastic container the size of an  OmniBox. Contains rechargeable batteries that can power the electric vehicle carrying it.
 DeliveryCabinet  A secure cabinet (outside a property) into which boxes can be delivered.
 DeliveryPoint  A destination for boxes. Several types exist: SmartWaiterMagicCupboardDeliveryCabinet and DeliveryPost.
 DeliveryPost  A post to which boxes can be securely attached. Used by isolated properties that are too far from others and from the road to allow economical delivery to the door.
  OmniBox  A brown plastic container the size of a cardboard grocery box. Used for delivering groceries and other goods and returning recyclables.
 InnerBox  A lightweight, translucent plastic box with an airtight lid. Used to hold small quantities of goods inside any of the larger delivery boxes.
 LiquidsBox  A cream coloured plastic container the size of a large cereal box. Used for holding liquids which are poured from a tap in the front of the box.
 LocalHub  A building in each neighbourhood where the localnet OmniVans are loaded and unloaded. It also contains shops, a library, a coffee shop and is a major bus and/or train stop. Outside, electric cars can be hired by the hour.
Localnet An integrated delivery, collection and transport service that gets goods and people to and from their homes.
 MagicCupboard  A delivery hatch in an outside wall through which boxes are delivered and collected. The boxes are accessed via cupboard doors on the interior of the property. May include chilled and frozen storage.
 MagicShelf  A shelf that holds several SolidsBox and/or LiquidsBox. The shelf contains weight sensors and can communicate with the rest of the localnet system.
 MealBox  An insulated orange plastic container the size of a large cereal box. Used to hold hot or cold prepared food or ingredients.
 NappyBox  A plastic container with an airtight lid. Used for collecting soiled nappies (diapers in U.S. terminology).
 OmniBus  A large vehicle that carries a mixture of goods and people, typically between LocalHubs.
 OmniPod  A plastic shell, 7 feet wide, 7 feet high and 5 feet long (approximately 2 x 2 x 1.5m). These are mounted on OmniVans and OmniBuses to carry goods (in boxes) or passengers on fold-down seats.
 OmniVan  A versatile electric vehicle that carries goods (in boxes) and/or people to and from the LocalHub. Each OmniVan carries two or three OmniPods.
 PaperBox  A yellow plastic container, the size of a large cereal box. Used for delivering mail and newspapers. Returned full of waste paper and card for recycling.
 SafeBox  Outwardly indistinguishable from a PaperBox but much more secure and trackable via satellite. Used for transporting valuables.
 SmartHatch  A goods delivery and collection hatch - typically in each elevator lobby - in an apartment block.
 SmartWaiter  An updated “dumb waiter”. A goods delivery hatch through which goods (in boxes) are delivered to and returned from an individual apartment.
 SolidsBox  A green plastic container the size of a large cereal box. Used for holding unwrapped solids.
 StorageBox  A grey plastic container the same size as an  OmniBox but designed for long term storage of items.
 WasteBox  A black sealable plastic container used for collecting non-recyclable waste.
