End-to-end Delivery: Local Services

This section discusses:

Existing Provision

What

Here we have to look at the types of services that are nowadays often only available in towns rather than villages - and even there are becoming scarce. We have already consider the production or selling of goods in the local area as what we termed the “Local Market”. Services that can be done over the internet or through the existing post are not really of interest here. There are therefore two major categories of services that we are considering here - both of which involve a tangible item that has to be transported from owner to service provider and back to owner at least once.

These services typically involve repairing, altering, replicating or adding value to an item:

Trends

Local artisans and craftsmen find it increasingly difficult to compete with the convenience and often lower cost of throwing things away rather than repairing them.

Evolution

Before national and global transport of items and ourselves became as easy as it is now, we lived in much tighter communities and many services were performed by those living near us. Localnet will revitalise this provision of services within our own community.

We could see a resurgence in many skills that once again become economically viable - whether as a full-time job or even just as a hobby or part-time occupation to earn some “pin money”.
