Vehicles: Pool Cars
Overview
At each LocalHub there is a small fleet of electric cars of various sizes for the residents to hire as needed.
Various Sizes
There should be at least three sizes of vehicle readily available:
- a small two-seater similar to today's Smart cars
- a standard four/five seat hatchback
- a seven/eight seat “minivan” or “people carrier”
One-way Hire
As with the powered bicycles in London and Paris, users should be encouraged to take these cars for each leg of a journey that they need them and then drop them off again rather than hold onto them until their return journey.
Electric Power
These cars use the same BatteryBoxesthat power the OmniVans. Contains rechargeable batteries that can power the electric vehicle carrying it.">BatteryBox as the delivery vans and, as with the vans, the space taken up by batteries can be traded for load space. This also means that they can be “recharged” by swapping batteries at any LocalHub.
Box Compatible
Because the BatteryBox is used for power, it makes sense that the car is designed to accommodate a number of the localnet boxes - which, if not needed for batteries, can be used for other goods.
