DeliveryPoints: DeliveryCabinet
Overview
Not every house has a kitchen with sufficient room for a full MagicCupboard and an exterior wall in which to place it. Properties built before localnet will have to be adapted and a cheaper option for these may be an exterior cabinet - typically just outside the front or back door - potentially where the (now redundant) wheelie bin and recycling boxes used to stand.
Unattended Delivery
Delivery staff can place boxes in and remove boxes from the DeliveryCabinet without needing to enter the house.
Display/Control Panel
An optional display panel can be fitted indoors or any existing smartphone, laptop or other internet connected device can be used to control the DeliveryCabinet and interact with the localnet system.
Recyclables
OmniBoxes arrive most days with the food you need for that evening and the next morning. As these are emptied, you place recyclables (glass, plastic, tins and compostable waste) in the box and pop it back in the DeliveryCabinet when full or you want rid of them.
Chilled and Frozen Goods
These are delivered in insulated boxes but only when the householder has indicated that they will be present to unpack them within an appropriate period of time. The DeliveryCabinet itself is also insulated and weather-proof.
Security
The DeliveryCabinet is screwed to the exterior wall of the property and the access door is locked until the householder or authorised delivery staff approach it.
Power
The small amount of power needed by the electronic sensing and communications devices inside the DeliveryCabinet can typically be powered by batteries charged from a solar cell on the top of the DeliveryCabinet. This avoids costly mains wiring.
Refuse
The WasteBox is left near rather than in the DeliveryCabinet as there is no need for it to be secure and it should be kept separate from the fresh deliveries.
